As mentioned above, our training is governed using the SITO standards which state the role and responsibilities of the security officer as:

The Security officer has four main objectives:

Protection of life
Protection of property and premises
Prevention of loss and waste
Prevention of crime

This means protecting buildings, people, assets, intellectual property and businesses from theft, damage, fraud, danger, assault and defacement, among others.

Responsibility for premises - covering access control by either gatehouses, reception or other means, patrolling, operating alarm systems, operating CCTV systems, controlling keys and searching individuals and vehicles.

Safety of premises and individuals - fire prevention, hazard identification, dealing with suspicious objects, handling emergencies, apprehension of suspects.

Communicating - within the security team and with others, using specialist equipment such as radios, report writing, maintaining logs and the operation of alarm systems and CCTV.

And as a security officer, who will have privileged information about customer security and business, complete confidentiality is maintained about any details which may compromise the customer´s security.
